TThe narrow road is tight and weaving full of twists and turns, trials and despairs… all safely guarded in the dark by our Lord, His mother, all the Saints and Angels waiting for at the end in Glory and Light for our eternal reward… LIFE. The path that is wide is the path we find ourselves on when we listen to the world, the path is grassy, green, full of delights, food, drink 🍸 holidays, status, cars, technology, internet, fashion, beauty of skin guarded by doctors who can give you a pill to keep you ‘alive’ and when the path ends there is nothing….

Matthew_7:13

The metaphor of God providing two ways, one good and one evil, was a common one in the Jewish literature of the period. It appears in the Old estament in Deuteronomy 30:19 and Jeremiah 21:8. A somewhat similar metaphor appears at Luke 13:24. The context and phrasing of Luke are quite different from that here in Matthew, and Davies and Allison suggest that this makes it less likely that this saying comes from Q.^[3] Luz supports the idea that the two gate metaphor was present in Q, and that the author of Matthew merged it with the well known two paths metaphor to create this verse.^[4]

Monição: Deus chamou João Baptista desde o seio materno, para reconduzir a Ele o povo de Israel.

Isaías 49, 1-6

¹Terras de Além-Mar, escutai-me povos de longe, prestai atenção. O Senhor chamou-me desde o ventre materno, disse o meu nome desde o seio de minha mãe. ²Fez da minha boca uma espada afiada, abrigou-me à sombra da sua mão. Tornou-me semelhante a uma seta aguda, guardou-me na sua aljava. ³E disse-me: «Tu és o meu servo, Israel, por quem manifestarei a minha glória». ⁴E eu dizia: «Cansei-me inutilmente, em vão e por nada gastei as minhas forças». ⁵Mas o meu direito está no Senhor e a minha recompensa está no meu Deus. E agora o Senhor falou-me, Ele que me formou desde o seio materno, para fazer de mim o seu servo, a fim de Lhe restaurar as tribos de Jacob e reconduzir os sobreviventes de Israel. Eu tenho merecimento aos olhos do Senhor e Deus é a minha força. ⁶Ele disse-me então: «Não basta que sejas meu servo, para restaurares as tribos de Jacob e reconduzires os sobreviventes de Israel. Farei de ti a luz das nações, para que a minha salvação chegue até aos confins da terra».

Este texto é o II Cântico do Servo de Yahwéh. O sentido profundo desta passagem visa o Messias, Luz das nações (v. 6; cf. Lc 2, 32). No entanto, temos aqui, como tantas vezes na Liturgia, uma adaptação deste texto a outra figura que não é o Messias, mas o seu Precursor, João Baptista. Joga-se, portanto, com o sentido acomodatício, que não é um sentido propriamente bíblico; é um sentido que nós pomos na Sagrada Escritura, tendo em conta uma certa semelhança de fundo ou meramente verbal. Aqui trata-se suma «acomodação real ou por extensão», pois há uma grande semelhança de fundo entre o texto e o que realmente se passou com o Baptista: v. 1b – Chamado antes do nascimento (cf. Lc 1, 13-17); v. 1b – Santificado no ventre materno (cf. Lc 1, 15.41-44); Chamado antes do nascimento (cf. Lc 1, 13-17); 1b – Santificado no ventre materno (cf. Lc 1, 15.41-44); 2 – Pregador intrépido das exigências divinas (cf. Mt 3, 7-10; 14, 4); 5-6 – Reconduz Israel a Deus e restaura o Povo (cf. Lc 1, 16-17; 3, 1-20.
