07/26 Monday of week XVII St. Joachim and St. Anne

“blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear”

GOSPEL, Matthew (13: 16-17)

Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew

16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear. 17 Truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it.

The Gospel of the Lord

Today we celebrate S. Joaquim and Santa Ana. According to an ancient tradition, which dates back to the 2nd century. These are the names of the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In view of this commemoration, we remember our grandparents with veneration and deep respect, as they were instruments of God in the transmission of life. The grandparents carried with them history, wisdom and a lot of love. Those who value their family, must above all, exalt their grandparents. Everything they have done has resulted in what we are today. Still alive and with us, let us show our affection and admiration, already with God, let us pray for his eternal rest.

The Gospel (Mt 13, 16-17)) gives acclaim to the Disciples, Their eyes and ears are blessed, because they choose to really see and hear. They understand what Jesus is teaching because they believe that Jesus is the Messiah (John 7:17). They obediently follow truth where it is meant to lead, based on what they have seen and heard. They understand, and so God gives them understanding (Matthew 13:11–12).

St. Joachim and St. Anne, whose life story comes to us, a little in the Apocrypha. They were a man and a woman who kept the fidelity to the covenant; they did not let the sense of Hope fade from their hearts.

We are content because God reaches us by his love and his mercy. Salvation can finally be seen and contemplated. From Joachim and Anne sprang Mary and from Mary, Jesus Christ our saviour and redeemer.

May God give us, like the saints Joachim and Anne, the grace to see Christ, the eternal priest in our daily lives and open our eyes of faith, to capture the miracles that happen daily in our lives. Let us be attentive to the Word of the Lord so that we will be joyful and enjoy all that the Father has provided for us, to live a hopeful and promising life.

Father, thank You for sending Jesus to live the truth, speak the truth, and reveal the truth so that we can know your will and your love more clearly. Open our eyes and hearts and reveal your truth to us as we seek Jesus and search Your Scriptures. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
