“The Spirit of truth will testify all about me”

GOSPEL, John (15:26), (16:4)

Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint John

John (15:26-27)

26 “When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father, he will testify on my behalf. 27 You also are to testify because you have been with me from the beginning.

John (16:4)

But I have said these things to you so that when their hour comes you may remember that I told you about them.

The Gospel of the Lord

In John (15: 26), (16:4)

The event of the Lord’s Resurrection transformed the hearts of the Apostles: from timid and ambitious to determined and bold as they became servants of the Good News.

Before the Jewish court, they openly proclaimed of the necessity to obey God rather than men.

The promised coming of the Holy Spirit made them understand the mystery of Christ’s death and resurrection; it gave them strength to preach and understand the events of Christ’s human life and the meaning of their own lives expressed in the message:

“19 When they hand you over, do not worry about how you are to speak or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given to you at that time;” (Matthew 10:19).

As it was in the past, it is true today the believer can be sure of the definitive victory of Christ over the evil in the world. The Holy Spirit will help the believer to stand firm in his courageous testimony of the faith, avoiding a triumphalist attitude in times of peace or accommodating in times of adversity. His testimony always requires a humble demeanour, as a servant, sometimes uncomfortable, but always cheerful.

St. Paul understands fully the strength of the Spirit that works in his human fragility:

“They oppress us, but they do not crush us; we ceaselessly and everywhere carry the death of Jesus in our bodies, so that his life may also be revealed in us” (2 Corinthians 4: 8).

Aware of the presence of the companionship of the Spirit of Jesus, we are also able to radiate our faith and hope of higher values in a simple and spontaneous way. With Him in our hearts, we have victory; we are of Christ until we die…

Father, we bless you, because at all times you give new energies to your Church and along the way, admirably you guide and protect us. Amen

Come Holy Spirit:
