0410 Saturday 8th week of Easter

“Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation.”

Gospel, Mark (16: 9-15)

Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark

The Resurrection of Jesus

16 When the sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. They had been saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?” When they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled back. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man, dressed in a white robe, sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you.” So they went out and fled from the tomb, for terror and amazement had seized them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.

Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene

[[Now after he rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons. 10 She went out and told those who had been with him, while they were mourning and weeping. 11 But when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it.

Jesus Appears to Two Disciples

12 After this he appeared in another form to two of them, as they were walking into the country. 13 And they went back and told the rest, but they did not believe them.

Jesus Commissions the Disciples

14 Later he appeared to the eleven themselves as they were sitting at the table; and he upbraided them for their lack of faith and stubbornness, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen.15 And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation.

The Gospel of the Lord

The risen Jesus appeared to Magdalene, the sinner and made her the first to announce the news of the Resurrection; she appeared to the disciples at Emmaus and finally she appeared to the eleven disciples sending them to take the gospel to all creatures “Go into the entire world and proclaim the Gospel to all creatures”!

As the Church teaches us, evangelization is the task of all the faithful, who are called through baptism, to be missionary disciples of Jesus Christ. The mission is not an optional task, but an integral part of the Christian identity, not limited to a program or project. It is sharing the experience and the events of our personal encounter with Jesus Christ, from falling in love with Him, to giving witness filled with courageous and joyful testimony to all people. Making visible the Father’s merciful Love, especially with the poor and sinners.

The joy of His resurrection is, for us, an indispensable assignment. Jesus’ mandate to the disciples must also resonate in our ears, we are also his disciples. You have to go where there is sadness. Where the joy of the resurrection or the songs of glory have not been felt. It is necessary to go where there is pain, where the only hope is the approaching end of days, death. You need to make yourself heard. It is necessary to announce to all of them, that death was destroyed and life emerged victorious. The author of life, wounded on the cross, gave us life, by his death.

Let us ask for the courage to announce his Gospel, which essentially consists of announcing his Paschal mystery.

God our Father, we want to be witnesses of the gospel and demonstrate with our lives that love is possible, overcome with your grace our fears and cowardice. Make us recognize Jesus, and we will be amazed by what his Spirit can do for us. Let’s all sing: https://www.dominicus.pt/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Vinde-Senhor-visitar-vosso-povo.mp3
